The Hurricane Shield

[Ernesto]With Ernesto bearing down on Florida after rolling through Cuba, I’d like to discuss the Hurricane Shield that exists around the Tampa Bay area.

You don’t have to look that far back to see an example of the shield in full effect:  in 2004, Hurricane Charley was on track to level Tampa by travelling directly up the Bay which would essentially flood the downtown area and cause massive devastation.  About 2 hours before the hit, Charley inexplicably turned East, saving the area from the storm.

There were a number of other storms that criss-crossed Florida during the 2004 and 2005 seasons without directly hitting the Tampa Bay area or causing more than minor inconveniences.  Just 2 days ago, Ernesto was targeting the Tampa Bay area in a similar fashion as Charley, but it now appears that there will be a minimal effect from this storm as well.

Where did the shield come from?  Is it alien technology?  Why is it only around the Tampa Bay area?  Can the ones who erected the shield share it with the rest of the state or the country?  I don’t know the answers to these questions, but I’m curious to find out.

Seriously though, in the meantime, we should never over look the need to adequately prepare for Hurricanes and Tropical Storms.  Hurricane Charley taught me a lesson about preparedness because I saw the damage that it did just an hour south of where I live and I know that had it hit as expected, my house would not have fared well because I didn’t take steps to fortify it for the storm, nor did we gather all of the supplies we needed in the event that power and water were lost.

Hi there! For a moment I’m creating a blog about Subaru and people for whom Subaru is much more than just a car. Subarumania exists in many countries and in every country this mania has its peculiarities. My goal is to collect as much as possible information about subarumaniacs throughout the world. This site is NOT commercial. Mail to Alex (subamaniac@gmail.com ) if you have any information about people who have such passion for Subaru. Any information will be very much appreciated. And welcome to my site!
